楚汉相争时期，汉王刘邦重用淮阴人韩信，先后活捉魏王豹、赵王歇、燕王藏荼、齐王田广。他被刘邦封为齐王后率30万大军和彭越的军队会师，把项羽围困在垓下，他采取十面埋伏的战术，逼使项羽在乌江自刎，取得决定性的胜利。
