东汉末年，刘备利用曹操与孙权的矛盾，就命关羽率军北上，进攻襄阳与樊城。曹操派曹仁领兵出战，被关羽的部将廖化打败。庞德率军指名要与关羽决战，双方难分胜负。关羽对部下说庞德是初生之犊不怕虎，必须用计才能制伏他。
