隋炀帝杨广时，著作郎（官名）王劭常用一些荒诞言论取悦皇帝。他曾谎报说：有人抓了一只乌龟，它的腹部有“天下杨兴”四个字，预示着杨家江山兴旺长久。当皇后死时，王劭又说：皇后原是菩萨转生，她现在只是回到天上去……他这些“骇人视听”的奇谈怪论虽然遭到有识之士的鄙弃，却得到杨广的欢心。这样，王劭在著作郎的位置上坐了将近二十年。“骇人视听”现写为“骇人听闻”
